ABC's Wide World of Sports for years began with the words (I believe spoken by Jim McKay), "The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat." I am planning to use both this passage (the apparent thrill of victory), and the Mark passion account (the apparent agony of defeat.) TN Mack

Has anybody ever done a sermon on the donkey?

Nope, I've never done a service ON a donkey, I have used a donkeys head for a "costume" during a palm Sunday Sermon. The local HS was doing Shakespeare's "A Mid-Summer's Nights Dream". Bottom's costume!
I've also been called a donkey before...
I actually think they called me an "ASS"...

Speaking of donkeys.... Bible truths are timeless... Ages ago Samson struck down a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass, and you know, the jawbone of an ass is still a dangerous thing.... In thinking about the crowd in the palm Sunday scene, I am thinking of preaching on the issue of the decisions we all (we and those in the crowd) must make after the parade. The festive entry is a fine thing, but how do we cheer the rest of the week. How to we stay close to this savior who looks and acts so contrary to our ideas of power and victory. After the parade, everyone has to decide who Jesus is and what he is about. So do we in our daily lives and in our faith- will we trust his guidance and presence when we face hard decisions and turmoil? Do we follow him when we feel on top of the world, sefl-asured, self reliant, and successful? If we don't need him, do we need his passion? Do we need Easter - the resurrection vistory event that is the heart of our sense of being saved - loved beyond all measure? Jim in Ct.

Sermon on the donkey? Yes I talked about how the man who gave them the donkey to use furthered the mission and ministry of Jesus. Then took examples from the bible and past saints that have helped spread the Gospel all because they too were donkey givers. Theres a lot to say on the subject. The kicker is when you remind your congragation they can be donkey givers too. And ask them how can they can give in simple ways to get Jesus a little farther down the road. Try it.

WAs the crowd wrong or fickle? In other words the crowd at the parade was right, the crowd at the trial was wrong. Was it the same crowd? nancy-Wi
